Maureen Kellick, Artist

Rosary Hill College – Bachelor of Fine Arts 1974

The visual impact of nature has profoundly influenced Kellick’s life and art. Growing up near New York’s Niagara River and Lake regions, she was inspired by the local orchards and vineyards, which shaped her early artistic endeavors. As a Gulf Coast artist in residence Kellick found new inspiration in Florida’s brilliant sunshine, exotic vegetation, and diverse wildlife. This experience expanded her color palette and introduced new subject matter into her art.

Kellick’s passion for drawing led her to explore new career paths in graphic arts and design. She received commissions for logo designs, murals, and paintings, which marked the beginning of a diversified career in advertising, marketing, events, tourism, and the visual and performing arts. Over the decades, these experiences enriched her portfolio, eventually bringing her back to the studio and her roots in fine art.

Today, Maureen Kellick’s portfolio reflects the natural beauty of Florida and captures historic destinations and scenes from the Great Lakes and Adirondack regions. Her work spans a broad spectrum of subject matter, scale, and medium, showcasing her versatility as an artist. Kellick’s art has achieved recognition and numerous awards. Her pieces are featured in private and public collections across the United States, including Vermont, New York, Pennsylvania, Virginia, North Carolina, New Mexico, California, and Florida.

Nature remains a prime component of Kellick’s extensive body of work. Her unique style is characterized by her use of color, shadows, perspective, and line, all of which highlight her deep connection to the natural world.

What brought you to Daemen/Rosary Hill?

As a young artist, before my college years, I had the opportunity to show my work in several Art Festivals and exhibitions in our WNY and Ontario area, leading to private commissions, awards and recognition.   Rosary Hill College had a widely recognized Fine Arts program during the 70’s, and acceptance into their program was a coveted and prestigious achievement.

What do you remember most vividly from your time at Daemen/Rosary Hill?

My years at Daemen/Rosary Hill were spent fully immersed in the studios; drawing, printmaking, ceramics, and painting.   I was blessed to have has both James Allen (Professor Emeritus) and Professor James Kuo as painting advisors.  These working artists, as well as the many other talented professors at the College, were stimulating to work with and take direction from.  Like many Alumni – these were wonderful, creative years on the Daemen/ Rosary Hill campus.

How did your experiences and education at Daemen/Rosary Hill prepare you for life after college?

The talents and abilities of my professors, as well as my fellow Fine Arts students (comrades) at Rosary Hill / Daemen opened my mind and enabled me to push my art boundaries.   The focus of not just making of the art – but one’s philosophy of why you are creating – was always fore front.   The training, education and experiences at Rosary Hill ‘shot me out of a cannon’ into my life as an artist.
